Kowa 12×56 BD56-12 XD Prominar Binoculars

Description

Resolving distant big-game silhouettes without the image dimming common to high-power optics, the Kowa 12×56 BD56-12 XD Prominar Binoculars deliver high-magnification resolving performance and light-gathering capability for open-country hunting and long-range mountain scouting. Combining 12x magnification with large 56mm objective apertures, this Japanese-engineered roof prism optic provides a 288.7-foot linear field of view at 1000 yards (96.2m at 1000m), an actual angle of view of 5.5 degrees (wide apparent angle of 66 degrees), a 4.7mm exit pupil, and 16mm of eye relief for steady tripod-mounted observation and detailed antler evaluation.

The optical system features two Prominar XD extra-low dispersion fluorite-crystal glass elements paired with high-reflectivity roof prisms treated with phase-correction coatings and Kowa proprietary C3 dielectric mirror layers, fully multi-coated surfaces, and KR hydrophobic exterior lens coatings. Built inside a lightweight magnesium alloy chassis encased in dark green textured protective rubber armoring, the housing measures 164 by 148 by 66mm (6.5 x 5.8 x 2.6 Inches) and weighs 1050g (2.31 lbs). The optical barrels are dry nitrogen gas filled and O-ring sealed for complete waterproof and internal fogproof protection. Mechanical controls include a central focus wheel with a 9.8-foot (3m) close focus distance, a right-eye diopter adjustment ring, multi-position twist-up click-stop eyecups, an interpupillary distance range from 57mm to 72mm, and an integrated 1/4-20 threaded tripod adapter socket.

Key Features of Kowa 12×56 BD56-12 XD Prominar Binoculars

Designed for open-plains glassing and long-range observation, this 12×56 roof prism binocular combines Prominar XD fluorite glass with high-magnification reach. Its 66-degree wide-angle apparent field of view provides broad situational awareness while glassing distant canyon walls. The nitrogen-sealed magnesium chassis, multi-position eyecups, and KR lens coatings ensure dependable mechanical control and weather resistance across rugged backcountry environments.

High-Power Prominar XD Optics & C3 Dielectric Prism Coatings

The optical train utilizes Prominar XD fluorite-crystal glass elements to eliminate secondary chromatic aberration, ensuring high-power 12x magnification remains free from color fringing along high-contrast borders. Kowa C3 dielectric mirror coatings reflect more than 99% of light across the visible spectrum, maintaining high optical contrast and true color saturation when glassing shadowed coulees during fading daylight. The 4.7mm exit pupil provides ample light throughput to resolve subtle target details across expansive distances.

Waterproof Magnesium Chassis & 66-Degree Wide-Angle Field

The magnesium alloy chassis provides structural rigidity while maintaining balanced weight distribution for tripod-assisted glassing or steady two-handed field support. Textured dark green rubber armoring cushions against accidental knocks and offers a secure hold in cold, wet conditions. The wide 66-degree apparent field of view allows hunters to scan broad mountain slopes without constant repositioning, while the integrated tripod socket provides rock-solid stability during extended glassing sessions.

• Central focus wheel providing fluid focal adjustments with tactile knurled control
• Submersible nitrogen-purged magnesium alloy chassis engineered to resist heavy field impacts
• Wide 66-degree apparent field of view facilitating rapid scanning across vast landscapes
