Kowa 8.5×44 Genesis XD44 Binoculars

Description

Occupying a unique configuration between eight and ten-power optics, the Kowa 8.5×44 Genesis XD44 Binoculars delivers a 367.5-foot field of view at 1000 yards (7.0-degree actual). The 5.2mm exit pupil and 18mm eye relief ensure easy eye placement. At 33.4 ounces, the solid chassis feels heavy during day-long backcountry hikes.

Four Prominar XD extra-low dispersion lenses feed phase-corrected BaK-4 roof prisms coated in proprietary C3 dielectric-grade reflective layers. The magnesium alloy chassis is sheathed in green rubber armoring, measuring 6.5 by 5.4 by 2.5 inches and weighing 33.4 oz (948 g). Nitrogen filled and sealed against moisture, it features an internal center focus wheel tracking to 5.6 feet (1.7 m), a locking diopter adjuster, and twist-up eyecups.

Key Features of Kowa 8.5×44 Genesis XD44 Binoculars

Engineered for field ornithologists and discerning observers who refuse to compromise on chromatic correction. The quad XD lens system suppresses color fringing entirely, while the 8.5x magnification provides extra reach without inducing visible hand tremors.

• 8.5x magnification through 44mm objective lenses with a 5.2mm exit pupil
• Four XD extra-low dispersion optical elements eliminating chromatic fringing
• BaK-4 roof prisms treated with C3 dielectric mirror coatings and phase layers
• 367.5 ft field of view at 1000 yd (7.0-degree actual angle)
• 18mm eye relief with multi-stop twist-up rubber eyecups
• Short 5.6-foot close focus distance suited for close-range botanical study
• Nitrogen gas purged magnesium alloy chassis sheathed in green rubber armor
• Integrated locking diopter adjustment ring and front tripod adapter socket

Prominar XD Optics & C3 Prism Transmission

Kowa fits two pairs of XD objective lenses containing fluorite crystal characteristics, eliminating secondary spectrum fringing along bright water edges and backlit branches. C3 prism mirror coatings push reflectance beyond 99 percent across the visible spectrum, yielding true color neutrality and high edge-to-edge sharpness across roughly 90 percent of the frame before slight field curvature begins.

Magnesium Chassis & Internal Focus Gearing

The thick magnesium alloy body protects internal prism collimation from heavy mechanical shocks, though the forward weight requires a firm two-handed grip. The oversized central focus wheel glides smoothly across its travel with grease-damped friction, and the central diopter dial locks securely to prevent accidental setting drift.

• Internal center focus wheel turns without external barrel extension or play
• Locking diopter ring prevents focal drift when sliding into field bags
• O-ring sealed nitrogen chambers eliminate internal lens fogging during alpine rain squalls
