The quintuple nosepiece carries three standard Plan PLi objectives (4x, 10x, spring-loaded 40x) alongside a specialized Plan S100x/1.25 oil-immersion objective featuring an internal mechanical iris diaphragm. Closing this built-in iris chokes down the objective numerical aperture to match the hollow light cone, stopping glare from washing out your darkfield view.
Sub-stage lighting relies on an oil-immersion Cardioid condenser with an integrated 3W LED scattering ring module, while brightfield modes run on a separate 3W NeoLED base lamp. An automated iCare motion sensor cuts power when you step away, preventing optical heating during long clinical shifts. Standard dry darkfield condensers fail at 1000x because light scatters directly into the front lens, destroying contrast. This system uses an optical oil interface on both the Cardioid condenser and the objective to project a steep hollow light cone past NA 1.25. When examining native blood cells, twisting the objective’s knurled iris collar knocks out peripheral light rays, making unstained bacteria, chlamydia, and lipid droplets glow like bright stars against an ink-black background.

Documenting live cellular motility requires real-time video capture. The vertical photo channel routes clean optical data to external digital C-mount cameras without disturbing your eyepiece view. The built-in iCare sensor saves electricity and protects delicate live mounts from ambient stage warming by shutting off the LED array after a few minutes of inactivity. Coaxial focus knobs move in 1.4-micron steps, giving technicians the fine control needed to slice through fluid layers.
