Description
At 2.2kg, this is the lightest refractor in the Artesky range, and it doesn’t cut corners on glass to get there. The ED 72/432 pairs a 72mm aperture with Ohara FPL-53 glass, the same premium ED grade used in APM’s SD-class doublets, in a tube light enough to ride on a star tracker instead of a full equatorial mount.
Wondering if 72mm is enough aperture? For wide-field framing of nebulae and star fields on a star tracker, aperture matters less than portability and color correction, and this tube delivers FPL-53-grade color correction most 72mm doublets don’t bother with. Needing just 4kg of mount capacity, it’s built to travel in a backpack, not a flight case.
Key Features of Artesky ED 72/432 OTA Refractor Telescope
A 2-element air-spaced ED doublet using Ohara FPL-53 glass gives this compact tube color correction closer to premium SD-class doublets than a typical entry-level ED design.
- Ohara FPL-53 glass delivers sharper color correction than the standard ED grade used in larger Artesky models
- At just 2.2kg, this is the lightest OTA in the Artesky lineup, easy to pair with a star tracker
- 2-inch rack-and-pinion focuser rotates a full 360 degrees for precise camera framing
- Only 4kg of mount capacity needed, opening this up to compact star trackers and travel tripods
- 33mm image circle covers APS-C format sensors for wide-field astrophotography
- Fully multi-coated ultra-wide broadband optics keep contrast high across the field
- Retractable dew shield packs down to a 310mm transport length with the shield retracted
- Magnification range from 11x to 140x covers casual visual use alongside imaging
What Sets the Artesky ED 72/432 Apart
Against its own siblings in the Artesky line, this 72mm tube is the outlier: smaller aperture, but the premium FPL-53 glass usually reserved for larger, pricier doublets. For travel astrophotography where weight and pack size matter more than raw aperture, that trade makes sense in a way it wouldn’t on a fixed observatory setup.
Applications & Use Cases
Built for ultra-portable wide-field deep-sky astrophotography and travel visual observation, this refractor pairs well with light star trackers or small alt-azimuth mounts.
- Travelers who want a genuine APO doublet light enough to carry as hand luggage
- Imagers running a star tracker who prioritize color correction over aperture
Artesky Warranty & Support
The ED 72/432 carries a 2-Year Warranty covering manufacturing defects, handled directly through Artesky’s support channel.
